Sitting Bull,
The total cost for the Holley Stealth Ram is I think $440. You can use your stock injectors so you don't have to buy them. The stock TB bolts right on. I assume the gaskets come with it. The only other thing you have to buy are the fittings to connect the fuel rails. From what I have heard the fittings cost less than $50.
Plus the Stealth Ram kit can be ordered with an inline FPR already on it. (Which is, by the way, included in the price above)

So.... it is cheaper to go carb or go Stealth Ram in the name of performance? My book says Stealth Ram.

Im running a twin electic cooling fan on my 85 that is similar to the factory cooling fans onmy 97 z. my 85 is carborated with a deamon double pumper carb. its sucks more gas then i thought was earthly possible but the power it puts out over tpi is amazing. Tpi has its potintials but a 500 dollar deamon that can be set for street or strip with a screw driver in a few min. is my choice

Especially since there are excellent used combos everywhere that you can snap up for $300 or so. Never seen ANY fuel injection system go for less than twice that.
Well, obviously you're going to score some decent used stuff cheap, but it's awful hard to compare used prices.

But if you really need somebody to price out the induction systems, here goes:

From Thunderracing.com
Holley Stealth Ram: $280
Fuel rail kit: $175.
Misc. fuel line fittings & hoses: $50 (I doubt it'll cost that much)
Total: $505

From Summitracing.com (Thunderracing doesn't have any carb stuff)
Holley 4160 carb: $240 MINIMUM (Expect to pay more if you want over 600cfm or if you want any features)
Weiand intake manifold: $132
Summit chrome 14" air cleaner assembly: $18
Electric fuel pump: $57
Misc. fuel line fittings & hoses: $50 (Priced the same as above for the sake of a fair comparison)
Summit distributer (No more computer control for your stock HEI): $160

So far we're up to $657 and you still need to buy a new throttle cable, and I don't think you're going to get away with the stock water neck and upper coolant hose. You're also going to need to buy a temperature switch for your electric fan, and a few other gizmos that I haven't thought of, so let's add another $100 for the rest of the crap.

So.. $757 to convert to carb or $505 to use a HSR that will produce more power, better gas milage, and lower emissions. Even if you shop for some different products (i.e. edelbrock or carter carbs instead of a holley), the fact is, when it's all said and done, you're spending just as much or more for a carb swap.

Jim, thanks for the real comparison.

But guys, Darth needs to go carb because thats what he is gonna get help with. So let that be.

I am going Holley Stealth Ram this spring... I am a bit nervous though because I only have 7000 miles on my new motor and I am already gonna mod it AGAIN!

I'm gonna head over to thirdgen.org and get the inside scoop on this whole thing.

LOL I love it, as I recall I sais in the 3rd post on this thread Fair Enough, meaning ok Ill stay with the elctric fan but unfortunately I have to find a dual set-up Im one of the unlucky IROC without dual fans. And then someone had to ask, "Hey Darth, why you goin carb? And once again the hit the fan. You guys just couldnt resist making this another huge argument about me going to a carb set-up up.

And yea like IROC5.7TPI said he already tried to talk me out of it, its not gonna work unless someone is just willing to hand me over a mini-ram for free, cause If not Ill just stick with my 650, Its already in the works. Now I just gotta get the pistons back in the car

I'll admit that one of the great things about carbs is that every town has at least one guy that knows them inside and out, so you can always get help. My TPI project has been an uphill struggle from day one, because there's nobody in my area that knows TPI, so I had to learn it all myself. But... with the help of the Internet, you can get anything answered. Going to the stealth ram is basically a no-brainer except for the chip burning process. The physical installation is straight-forward, and the computer control all remains 100% stock. No new system to learn. You're still working with the stock TPI except that it's a different shape.
