Im going with the carb instead of the TPI so I wont have the ram-air y-pipe or whatever you call it and my bottom mount for the electric fan is broken, so rather than diggin around in a junkyard for one so I have the clerance to just attach a regular metal fan to the water pump.

Bad idea. Mechanical fans suck. They are loud, and are a source of parasitic power loss. Just fix the electric fans mount.

I agree 100%.

The fan sucks a substantial amount of power away from the engine.

Why are ya goin carb?

DON'T PUT A TOILET ON YOUR CAR.
I myself would rather use the tpi because of reliability and fuel milage.
if someone pops there hood i would rather see a tpi thwn a round air filter the tpi is more appealing

Believe it or not (I never would have believed it, but several mag tests have proved it), some mechanical fans can suck down power like you wouldn't believe. We're talking 30-40 hp! Fix the electric unit...

And TPI is dog**** for performance. However, the relatively cheap (and TPI compatable) Holley Stealth Ram setup looks like a real winner...

You guys are wasting your time trying to talk him out of going carbed...I've tried

Anyhow, like they said...keep electric cooling fan. I have a single 15" one from a carbed IROC I'll sell you. It bolts right in and will wire up to your stock relay setup. I cna also help you with wiring it.

Let me know if interested....

As much as I prefer TPI, whenever somebody brought cost into the mods picture, I had to back down and admit that carbs were the cheap way to make power.

Now we have the stealth ram. There's no longer any excuse to swap to carb in the name of cheap performance. Converting from TPI to carb will cost just as much as a stealth ram, and I'd love to see a carb that can add 63 horsepower at 5,200 rpm over the stock TPI on an L98 camaro. That was on a 100% stock L98 camaro with stock exhaust manifolds and a STOCK CHIP... and we all know how fussy speed density cars are to mods.

The stealth ram is the real deal and is real cheap. There's no longer a reason to abandon technology for the sake of affordability.

Imagine what a stock L98 with a cam and headers could do.

The only bad thing for me is that the stealth ram isn't available for Vortech heads So for my combination (heads and ZZ3 cam in stock short block) the most cost effective way to do things is to buy the $400 Scoggin-Dickey base and keep the stock runners and plenum for now until I can get the money together to get AS&M runners.

I priced out what it would cost to switch to carb and it would be a lot more.

Intake ($239)
Carb ($250)
HEI ($150)
Mallory 3 port FPR ($90)
Misc. Gaskets, bolts, etc. ($40)
TV Cable bracket ($20)

Total: Almost $800 and I know I had to forget a thing or two.

I'd like to see you price both induction systems out for us. I think you'll find that a carb and intake is still way cheaper.

Especially since there are excellent used combos everywhere that you can snap up for $300 or so. Never seen ANY fuel injection system go for less than twice that.

seriously who gives a **** about which system is prettier to you (WHICH IS AN OPINION ANYWAYS). TPI aint God's gift to performance minded people.

go to a track, sure there are a lot of fast cars (there are at mine) and sure there are a lot of fast late models with fuel injection, but i dont see any fast ones running TPI systems from GM(not at my track). i do however see many many fast cars with carbs. price is a no brainer, dont even argue about it carbs are cheaper, especially when you factor in that you can sell your TPI to some old guy for $500-$600 complete. its almost a profit to go to a all new carb setup, which only requires a screwdriver to tune (nope you dont get to spend $250 on equipment, sorry)

i'm not dissing fuel injection (sure it has its advantages) but TPI aint the best around.

for the fan issue, i am switched to a mechanical flex fan. for me it was a no brainer. my single electric fan went dead. so for $30i could get another motor(but my engine would still overheat in traffic in the summer). so i spent $30 on a Derale flex fan and 2" spacer. i dont know how much HP i lost (butt dyno said i lost a lil bit. but its worth it to not have cooling problems come traffic in the summer. spinning this 17" fan which aint to light by the way (i think 3.5 lbs) has got to be robbing me of some power, but it does clear under the stock hood. if i had the money no doubt about it i would have baught some bad *** electric fans (aftermarket, Derale's are nice i have heard), but that was/is just not in the budget right now, so....

Can I ask why you're so rude to people? It seems you have a bad attitude towards people you don't even know...and I'm not referring to only this post. I have seen your posts on thirdgen.org and it seems you blast people for no apparent reason. Its not like anyone personally attacked you, they just have opposing opinions in a few issues.

So why do you have a chip on your shoulder?
