car starts but that's it !!
i have a 1986 Z-28 camaro, last summer i installed a "brand new" quadra jet from a local parts store, because the old carb was pretty much wore out. the car ran fine for a couple of months(very little drive time) and went to hell almost overnight! i ran the codes and come up with the map and baro sensors, to which i have replaced and the car still won't go!! car starts and idles as long as i am on the gas but will not get over 2g on the tach?????? any and all suggestions are helpful, i am almost to the point of doing away with all the computer garb, but i wanna fix this up for my son to drive in a couple of years. i'd like to stay as they say "street legal".

How new is the motor, i have seen cam lobes worn off do the same thing, i would go with a Edelbrock or a Holley with a HEI distributer, you will controll everything not the computer, Qjets are junk, and a pain to tune, i will bet maybe a factory calibration was not right too, it takes more for anyone to give true help without seeing the car in person, hope i gave you a little insight.

i originally purchased a edelbrock carb and a whole lot more edelbrock accessories(approx. $800.00 worth) after several e-mails to the edelbrock company, only to be continually frustrated because the parts they told me to purchase would not bolt up and i don't have my own shop to modify parts to make their stuff work. finally the edelbrock tech line told me none of thier parts were actually made for my car and they would burn up my trans(700R4). like i said i want to keep it street legal, maybe just a whole new power plant???? thank you for your help.

Carbs rarely go south on you all of a sudden. The only time they typically will is if you are getting dirt past the fuel filter. That can gum up the works real quick. Typically the first thing it goes after are the idle passages since they are the smallest passages in the carb.
I'm suspecting something else, though, by your description.
