Car dies when put in gear
This may sound really basic and stupid, but I had this problem right after I did a tune up. I put a few of the spark plug wires back on wrong. I doubt this is your problem, but i always like to eliminate easy stuff first. Also, does it die instantly, or does it try to stay alive and then kinda bog itself out? If so, it could be a vaccum problem. I would check all of that kind of stuff to make sure I re-installed all of it correctly before I dig into something.
the stall is rated 3000 to 3500 rpm. I have been trying to eliminate all the small things that could possibly be wrong and nothing has worked. I heard something about breaking seals or rings when you put the converter in but im pretty sure thats not it because i was really careful. I am about to just put the 2400 stall back in but i really didnt want to do that if there was nothing wrong with the new one that I got. Any more hints or ideas before tomorrow afternoon would be great!

IAC Counts?????
Also, your 87 is probably mass air while the 91 is speed density. SD is not as forgiving. Also, maybe your TC is not right for that camshaft? When my 91 was a 350 and I put heads and cam on it, it did the same thing. Called LPE and they asked me what TC I had. When I told them it was stock, they said to get one that was about 500 higher than stock. No problems after that.

ok I figured out what was wrong with it. I called Art Carr who built the transmission and its a non lockup tranny. So obviously a lockup converter wont work. So back in with the 2400 but at least it will work. But thanks for all the help.
