Question Can someone tell me what may be casusing an overly stiff brake pedal?

I rebuilt my engine recently and since I put it back together ive had a problem with the brake pedal being really stiff. This casuses a particular problem for me let alone scaring the hell out of me when I have to make a sudden stop. I dont have a stall converter so when Trying to take off fast I have to hold down the brake pedal but with the hard brake problem It makes it a real challenge to old the brake and press the gas without letting it get away from me.

Any Ideas?

Sounds like you either forgot to hook up a vacuum hose to your master cylinder or if u did happen to hook it up then u have a leak.

Have you checked the amount of vacuum your new motor is producing? You may need to either put a vacuum storage cannister in it or get an electric vacuum pump for the booster.
Of course, you could always convert to manual brakes and lose the extra wt.

My uncle said he checked the vacum lines but I wasnt there so I dont know how well he went through them Ill go do it myself when I get the time And I dont think its a leak becase Im not losing fluid. However I dont know anything about aftermarket vacum pump can you maybe post a link that would give me some info or explain further about my engine pulling too much?

This definitely sounds to me like the brake booster not working for some reason. Something to look at is the check valve in the brake booster vacuum hose...it only passes air one way so if its backwards the booster won't work. To check it you just pull it out and blow through it. You should be able to blow air into the booster side but not the other way.

You need to get a vacuum gauge and check your actual manifold vacuum, make sure its not a ported vacuum source. This will tell you where to start. If the vacuum is very low there may not be enough supply for the power booster.

I had the exact same problem yesterday when I took apart my manifold. There was one little hose I left off the very back of the top of the manifold. Is it idleing wierd? I dont know much, but that's just my two cents. Check it out, you may have overlooked one.
