cam problem

I have an 87 Trans Am 5.0L 4bbl. I do not know a lot about cars but I am trying to learn on this one. Anyway, A few months ago I decided to start a project where I would replace the headers, cam and carburetor (yes, pontiac made carbureted trans ams in 1987 contrary to popular belief). I have not gotten all of the parts yet but I did get the cam from Jegs. They told me I needed a hydraulic roller cam and so I bought one. Today, when I was trying to order the distributor they told me only the tpi's had roller cams. Does anybody know which cam I need?

Re: cam problem

If it is not your daily driver, you could just pull the intake and see what lifters you have. It has to come off anyways.

Re: cam problem

Unfortunately, it is my daily driver. I may have to do that eventually though.

Re: cam problem

If that is the original motor, than it is a roller cam (the LG4 in my '87 was too). Most people just don't realize that you could still get the LG4 in '87.
