Question Cam and header suggestions

I currently have a 1992 350 that has about 80K on the motor...I wrecked my car so along with getting new aesthetics, I want to go ahead and work on the motor...It's all stock. What I plan on is getting a Stealth Ram Vortec intake and Vortec heads from my mom's old Tahoe Motor and then building those 1.6 RR...what would be a good cam to go with this? I want my car to have a lopey idle but also want a nice torque curve...I don't want to lose too much torque in the this transition. Also, what would be better for this set up, longtubes or shorties?

Re: Cam and header suggestions

to use the 1.6 rockers i think you will have to do some work on the pushrod guides IIRC.

as for a cam, if your not wanting to do any tuning a COMP 08-300-8
(206/210, 450/480,112 lsa) is a good way to go, if you have a way to tune then a 08-302-8 (210/220, 480/480, 112 lsa) then this cam will give youa good bit more.

as for headers, if you need emission headers then hooker 2055's are killer and the Y pipe used no gaskets at the header to Y connection using a ball and flange connection.

hedman has a header thats similar without the air tubes (68470) but the Y pipe isnt 3" at the end so i sugguest getting a Y built with a 3" outlet.

Re: Cam and header suggestions

I'd like to not have to tune just because I don't know how to but if there's a good bit of difference, I'll try it.

I don't live anywhere near an emissions area so preferably not anything geared for emissions.

I'll look into those though. I'm really excited to get this underway. I'm about to start school for Automotive Technology so it'll give me a pretty good "canvas." lol

Dyno dons > all other thirdgen headers. Also if youre going through the trouble of installing a cam, dont get one that is only good for 15HP for lack of tuning when you can get 45HP for a cam swap with some tuning. Basically, start looking into tuning/scanning software before you piece together a motor. Also, visit TGO, much more knowledgeable than this place.
