Buying a 1992 Camaro RS v8 6.0L
Buying a 1992 Camaro RS v8 6.0L
I'm looking into purchasing a 1992 Camaro RS. I want to find more information on this car. It has a v8, supposedly 6.0L, its been kept in great condition, all the maintinence done, kept in a garage. Its red with a black racing sripe down the center. The owner said there was only 1500 of these made with this engine. She's selling it when she retires in 1-2 years and I am first on the list to purchase it.
I want to find as much information about this car as possible. Any input would be appricitated.

Unless they put a 383 in it, its a 5.0 (305) tbi engine. The stripes mean its a hertiage edition, 25th anniversery. If you're looking to go fast with no mods, look elsewhere like the Z28, but if you just want a good, reliable 3rd gen go for it.
The car looks just like this: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/aahzmos/Cars/1992camaro.JPG
The former owner is a lady in her 40s. It has 80,000 miles, she’s asking $6,500.
I'll go check the car out tomorrow and write down what everything says, and take a few pictures.
This will be my first muscle car, so maybe its best not getting an expensive one for now. It looks like the best deal I have seen in my price range. I want speed, but I'm on a tight budget. I plan to add modifications down the road, but I don’t want to pour all my money into it.
Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it, and I’m still looking for more

well, that is two stripes not one!
so if that's the case then your paying a little more for the heritage package. the rs isn't fast in anyway when compared to the z28. it just looks good.
your not really getting low miles or a good price so unless there's just something about the car that fits i'd probably pass.
cars like that out here are for sale a dime a dozen and at half the price. just to give you an idea before you jump into something. the best part of owning an rs is the insurance.

heh, aucutally the Z28 was only like $8 more a month over the RS. Uhg if I only knew before...
I'd give $4500 for that car if the paint is damn near perfect, but realistically closer to $3500-4000 because a 10 year old car is gonna have some paint problems. Check for rust.
If you're looking for good speed without spending a lot of money, I'd advise against the RS though. They can be made to run OK (~15.0, 14.9) for about $1200, but you'll get better out-of-the-box performance with a Z28. Aucutally for 6-7g's you can probably find a 4th gen LT1 out there that will give you a little more speed over the 3rd gen (on average, dont crucify me for that 350 tpi guys), unless you perfer the style of the 3rd gen over the 4th like I do.

yeah, if it's power you seek the 4thgens are getting extremely cheap. there's a 94 with 80,000 near myself going for less than 7. there are plenty more than that as well. it looks like a nice car; but just doesn't have the appeal of a thirdgen. at least to me.
6L??? No way. Don't be a fool...run the VIN, do a Carfax, something like that. Don't get taken. I've got a '91 RS w/ 83K on it I'll sell ya for $5K.
I just talked to a guy who sold a 1995 Z28 LT1/M6 (1LE no less) with 66K miles for $6500 last week. Look around man, with it being almost 2003, get a 4th gen...best bang for the buck.
