but its JUST a 3rd gen..

i dont know what it is but.. after owning four 3rd gens and two 4th gens, and not having any f-body for one year.. i want a third gen again. since i sold my '99 TA, i got a '03 gsxr 600, drove my dads '77 vette for a few months, and am currently driving a '00 audi A6.. but theres just something about having a cheap, fun car to drive. i miss my '83 berlinetta 5.0/5sp as much, if not more than my '99 M6 TA.

i guess that means its time to start looking for a fixxer upper again..

Wow only took seven minutes! Sounds like a good canidate for a LS1/6 and a T-56 combo. Enjoy you new project.

i was thinking more along the lines of carb'd LQ4/9 + T56..

simple, reliable, efficient, powerful.. what more could you ask for?

eh.. LS1's are overrated. i would gladly pay less than half for the same engine, with a little more power and torque, for a slight weight penalty. assuming i get an aluminum headed motor, it's still going to weigh less than a Gen I and make over 100hp more than anything that came from the factory in a 3rd gen.

you do know what a LQ4/9 is, correct?

The LS1 is underated in MY opinion. But refresh my memory.. what exactly is the LQ4/9? Sounds familiar.. just can't picture it right now

the LQ4 and LQ9 are 6.0L truck engines. they are dimensionally the same as the LS1/2/6/7, besides the bore and stroke. all of the accessories bolt up just like an LS1. but most of them are iron blocks. the SSR has an aluminum version for instance, but those are very rare. the LQ9 (345hp) is a higher output version of a LQ4 (315hp-ish?). those are some of the basic differences/simularities.

That would be a pretty cool swap in my opinion. Have any third-gen guys done it before? Of course the LS1 swap has been done, but I haven't seen anyone with a LQ4/9 conversion.
