Brakes?
Brakes?
Its time to redo the brakes on my 91 Z28 1LE. Im not impressed at all with the stock setup. Im not sure if its the quality of th epads or the rotors but I want more stopping power. What pads do you guys recomend? Is it worth while getting drilled or slotted rotors? Ive heard that drilled ones tend to get cracks. If anyone has any experience please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
I've heard the same thing about drilled rotors cracking. The new rotors I've got for my 97 TA are made by Powerstop for a C5 Vette and they are dimpled and slotted. The dimples are supposed to work just as good as the drilled holes, but they don't weaken the support structure for the rotor.
Ps. I forgot, these rotors use directional vaines to keep them cool as well. You can only mount them one way. There's a left side and a right side, and you don't want to mix them up.

i have yet to have any problems with cross/slotted rotors however they have always been the nicer grade; gm/baer.
i wouldn't look to the rotors as an upgrade unless your going larger. if a 2 piston setup with good pads isn't good enough step up to 4. depending on your use my 13" 2 piston baer setup is more then enough on the street......i worry about those behind me all the time.

Metalic brake pads might make less brake dust but its killer on the rotors. You'll probably have just about the same amount of rotor wear as you will have brake wear. Ceramics are a bit dusty but will wear the pads instead of the rotors. I just got Morse Ceramics from AutoZone and they stop nicely.
