Question Boring a 350

Ok guys,
recently ive had a lot on my mind about a new engine for my 92 RS. I asked around on the boards about a BBC and many other options and i think ive finally decided on a just a 350, maybe build it to a 383. Well, dont laugh at me, but how would i go about doing that?? I dont really know a lot about making the block Bigger in terms of cubic inches... im still trying to learn a lot in my little experiance with working on cars ( i'll turn 17 in august) I know that you have to "Bore it over" but how much would i go about doing this by?? Also do you think it would be better to by the 383 crate with the machining already done ( if they even sell them ) or what is a good company to buy 350's blocks/crates from? Thanks for any info.

~Mitch

Cool

cool, thanks for the link. That block looks like it has real potential. But the only question i would have would be how would i convert my TPI to that block? It says that specific block is not to be used with fuel injected systems. What mods would i have to make?

Youll just have to have the intake made to fit the Votecs or buy the one that is made for the vortec heads. The 383 can be made pretty easy , just buy a good bottom end kit and with the 350 block dump it off at a GOOD machine shop and let them build the short block, if you go external balance make sure the flywheel/flexplate and balancer go through the machine process with the assembly. I would go internal balancing. After that you can get about any head that money allows. Depending on head and cam selection you could make a trememndous amount of power for 2500 to 8000 dollors (depending on the parts you buy.
Basicly a 383 is a 350 block bored .030 over and fitted with a crank that has a 3.75 inch stroke (design is robbed from a SBC 400) . They are not hard to build, Especially if you let the machine shop do it...lol

Take a 350 short block and have it bored out 30 thousandths over and stuff in a 400 crank and you have a 383. That is the bottom end.

Get a good cam and good aluminum heads like AFR 190 cc heads and say an ACCEL Superram Base, Plenum & Runners and TB and get it calibrated and you are rocking
