blowing instrument lamp fuse since stereo install

blowing instrument lamp fuse since stereo install

keep on blowing my dash lights ever since i installed my head unit...i made a wiring harness from the gm one...i have a jvc headunit....i installed it a while ago..im now getting around to fixing it...but...when i turn the lights on i hear a pop and thats the fuse...

whats making it do this?...yes i installed the headunit correctly...its just keeps blowing out the dash lights...

PLEASE HELP!!!

There is a wire in the harness (car side) that cames from the dash lights to light up the stock radio when you have your lights on. It sounds like you have it wired to something. the JVC probably won't accept this wire, because it uses it's own power for the radio lights.

Find out which wire this is (I'd guess blue on the radio side) and disconnect it.

I found out the hard way when I was 17 and too stupid to use a wiring harness adapter that even though that brown wire tests as a good ground, when you put your lights on, it's got +12 volts. I blew a couple fuses and a few headlight relays when I learned that GM's dash light shows as a ground until you turn the lights on.
