Post Block heater stuck in block, what now???

Hey guys, this is not SBC, but need help anyway. My friend has a 454 and the block heater was leaking. When he went to unbolt it, it just pushed in and fel into the block. He can't get it out now. So what do we do? Do we pull the motor and try to get it out, or do we just install a new one and leave this thing inthere. Its big, so it might not go anywhere, but you never know. What should we do?????

If it's the one that goes into the oil pan you need to get it out before running the motor. If it's the one that goes into the water jacket on the side of the block, you can leave it there.

Thumbs down

you can try the telescoping magnet, but since the whole f'in block is cast iron it wont be easy . I have had this happen several times, but never in a car, but I can imagine what a pain in the butt it is to get out.

As long as its just in the water jaker you should be fine, but it is always better to not have stuff that can potentially restrict to flow of water in your block.

But if you cant get it out, ya cant get it out...

Good luck,
Erik
