Re: Biggest noob ever

Many people say 305s dont have alot of potential, which isnt true...sure a 350 would be a better foundation, but it doesnt seem like you are going to be able to reap the benefits of a 350 here.

Theres a thread over on www.thirdgen.org where a member named Matt (MW66nova) made a thread on how to get a daily driven 305 into the 12's, manly from suspension mods and LOTS of weight reduction...this guy went crazy, down to the damn spoiler on the back of the car, which weighs all of maybe 4lbs max.

Actually the thread is here, pretty interesting.

So with some good suspension mods, good tires, and a few bolt ons, youd have a nice little 305 there. This is provided that you dont pick up a crappy LG4 TBI setup. Do your research. There are I think 3 different types of 305s which all vary in power. These three types also varied over the years in small ways (a few had peanut cams) so just watch out. Not every 305 is going to perform the same.

Re: Biggest noob ever

Another very viable option is to get an automatic equipped L98, then spend a few weekends under the car with a sawzall, and convert the car to a Tremec T56 6-speed.

About the hairiest part of the conversion is putting in the clutch and brake pedals. Again, there is lots of information over on thirdgen.org.

I converted mine to a T56 6-speed, and it won the Tremec "trick shift" award for best executed conversion at last summer's NMCA car show which travels around the country.

---edit--
DUDE! Check this one out! It'll make a heck of a car.

Re: Biggest noob ever

I just checked that camaro and yes I gotta say it's one hell of a car but little out of my budget. I dont want to spend more than 4K but today I grabbed a classified book from a buddy in class and found alot of hopefulls all for under 2k. But thanks for the input I aprecciate all you guys taking time to answer my questions . I do really like the idea of buying a 5.7 auto and getting the T-56 do they show up in the for sale area much? And yes I'll be checking thirdgen.org too maybe even make an accout there too!

T56's show up often enough in the for sale forum

also, if you have the time/space, keep an eye open for wrecked 4th gens w/t56's, I got one for $1500, which is about what a complete swap setup would run, and you can sell the rest of the parts and probably break even

thirdgen.org is a really nice site, go in light at first, they are a little testy with uninformed newbies
