Better heads than my stock LG4's please..
Re: Better heads than my stock LG4's please..
Well, if you have already bought an intake that will match your stock heads, you will need heads that stick to the old bolt pattern. Aluminum L98's will be a nice flow improvement, and they still have the 58cc chamber like the 305 heads. They can also be found for well under $500, as compared to aftermarket heads.

I've said it before. Those LG4 heads have a lot of potential. Ported they can flow better than those posted above, and for a good bit less expense. If you're looking aftermarket, nearly any head will work, as long as the combustion chamber volume is kept low, around 58cc, and you use no larger than 1.94/1.50 valves.
Re: Better heads than my stock LG4's please..
First off, I would LOVE a pair of aluminum L98's but i will be DAMNED if I find a pair out here, as it is near impossible to find a Vette or Camaro in a junkyard around my house.
I have an aluminum Performer, btw. Vortec's are WAAAAAAY to expensive, not to mention I would need to change my intake AGAIN. I have heard that the stock heads have a ton of potential, problem is nobody around here does machine work. And if they DO machine work, they charge a ton and a half for it. If I were to machine my stock iron heads, would exactly should I have done? (Not too sure what is meant by "machining".

Wow.. thanx for giving that article to me again (You showed that to me another time, i bookmarked it, and have since had to reformat my hdd so I lost it). How much power did you pick up from doing your heads? Since everybody says that the stock 305 heads flow so well, is it even worth getting new ones? And will I have to do some kind of valve-grinding or some junk in order to put the heads back on my being-re-built 305? Thanx all, and thanx for the site sittingbull

I think a good port and polish should be worth 30 - 40 hp over stock. In stock condition they don't flow so well, so you really need to go over them. Yes, have them refurbished with a good valve job and decking after you finish with the porting.
