Best Rust Killer

my car has a rusty chasis so i decided the most economical way to deal with it would be to crawl under it and paint it with some kind of enamel

does anyone have experience with this situation and would like to give me some insight as to whats the best?
ive heard good things about por 15 they are the most expensive but i found a site which sells a complete undercarrage kit which includes (marine clean, metal ready, and por 15 in quart sizes) for 45 +tax and shiping

how important is metal ready and cleaner

thanx for any info you can give me

your prep work always will show in the end so no step skipping. The metal ready and cleaner is very important. But with the way por15 works. All you really need is a wire brush.Do not get that stuff on your skin Only time removes it (2-weeks)

POR works. Scrape off the big rusty chunks and slather it on. Doesn't get much simpler than that.

exactly. you don't want to paint over the rust with an enamel or anything else, it has to be eliminated, then repaired.

Has anyone tried the clear POR15? I have a few bubbles forming on the body of the '91 GTA that I recently acquired.

I'd rather go clear so I won't have to do so many coats of duplicolor or sealer but if the black stuff works better, then that's what I'll get.

i think that the silver is the thickest version and the clear is the thinnest with por 15

so if i use por 15 on my rusty chasis do i need to use the marine clean and the metal ready or should i just wire brush because they cost extra money and if they arent really needed then id rather not get them. how much better do they actually make it work anyway?

Just scrape the rust and mud, etc., off and them Por15 it.

I believe the metal ready is for bare metal surfaces.
