Bad Torque Converter

On the highway with 2.73 ratio rearend, my RPMs are usually at 2000+ at 65 MPH... unlike usual, when I maintain a steady throttle position, the RPMs don't drop down the 400-500 RPMs. I'm assuming this means my torque converter no longer locks up? AKA: Why my fuel economy is now crap?

Also...when I'm driving around and my car is idling at 500 RPMs... I can feel the car trying to pull forward. Soooo its also not slipping...

Sooo, two questions, assuming this means its bad and there's no fixing it and it needs to be replaced:
1) Could this have damaged anything? I've been driving it like this for some time. I don't do much highway driving with it, so just now noticed it.
2) Recommend a replacement. I'm on a budget... I don't plan to run more then 350 horsepower, ever. I may eventually spray, but not on a regular basis. My point is, I don't need an $800 vigilante.

Thanks in advance for the feedback ladies. :-D

You could wait till I take my 500 above stock stall out and I'll sell it to you then.

It could mean your filter is clogged or the tranny needs to be rebuilt. I got about 2000 rpm at 65 with 3.23 gears and 245 50 ZR 26 tires.

Transmission was (supposedly) rebuilt about 30K ago... but who knows. Its been shifting less and less hard the past few weeks... I replaced the filter and fluid last summer, so that should still be good I would think. What IS 500 above stock stall? I might just take you up on that. I don't really have the bucks to keep fixing her, I'd just like to try and get the damn thing on the road so I can enjoy the rest of summer.... Winter is the time for fixing it.

How much did your God Build on your tranny cost aklim? Rossler did it right? I may end up doing that before I build/buy a new engine. No sense in pulling all that **** out if, two weeks after my new engine, I have to tear the transmission back out.

Lets take it one step at a time. Have someone else drop your pan and see what it looks like. Even if I gave you my TC it would not help for long if your tranny is toast. All it will do is push crud thru the TC and screw everything up. Give Rossler a call. www.rosslertrans.com has the number.

Ok. I should have it back into the shop by the end of the week or early next week... I'll let you know how it goes. *crosses fingers*

Oooh...one last thought. I have that shift kit, and (before it got screwed up) it would shift at maximum firmness all the time (and thusly always chirp tires into second---which is problematic with cops and old pissy neighbors about)... You said your shift kit was throttle sensitive? AKA: Half throttle would only be half stiffness?

What is that piece called and what does it cost, abouts? If I end up having to have rossler build me a new one, I'll just do that... but if it ends up being fine, I'd like to get that part done

My shift kit will shift hard all the time.

At WOT, it will shift at 6000 rpm but that is controlled by the governer.

Ahhh, ok. Have you ever heard of a throttle-based shift kit? I'd really like that... I've gotten two sound violation warnings so far as the bastard'll chirp tires UPSHIFTING at 2500 RPMs.

I had the electronic torque convertor lock up solenoid go bad in my '89. Replaced it and it worked great. You may want to check and see if the coil is open on it (you need to drop the trans pan and it is a "transformer" like unit towards the front of the trans.)
