i swaped my auto 86 camaro to a manual transmission.. everyhting is perfect... one thing... i used the wiring harness from the auto and broke off hte unit so the car would start.. do i have to buy a new wiring harness or how down i make the car go into reverse... ie... the lights for reverse arent turning on.. how do i make the car go into reverse without havent to put in a switch?

Re: auto to manual swap....

the wiring harness for the auto trans should have 2 wires, a power and ground for the reverse light for when the auto tranny shifts into reverse, u can hot wire em to work with the manual tranny

if u dont know which ones are for the reverse maybe u could try just putting them together one at a time till the reverse lights turn on and stay on

On the side of the manual xmsn there should be a 2 prong connector, that is your back up switch

First off, what tranny did you put in? Was it a T-5, T-56?

Re: auto to manual swap....

Is it a 5 speed or a 6 speed? Did it come from another third gen? Did it come from a 4th gen LT1 or LS1?

Re: auto to manual swap....

yes go to your nearest GM dealership and ask for the T5 Reverse light wireing harness...should be a simple female style plug that goes right into your tranny reverse light connector. from there all you do is wire your exisitng wires to this harness. enjoy your "new" car
