Anyone use Dart Pro 1 heads?
Anyone use Dart Pro 1 heads?
They were recommended as a great value for the dollar set of heads, about 1100 bucks assembled. 2.02, 1.60.
I had been thinking of Edelbrock of TFS but were told that the flow numbers were only slightly higher than the factory aluminium heads I have, less than a 10 CFM difference to be exact, and this was from a shop that specializes in porting using flow benches, so they know from whence they speak.
I wanted AFR's but they are too much money.

Re: Anyone use Dart Pro 1 heads?
woahhhhhhhhhhhh for starters what flow numbers are you using and at what lift.yes at lower lifts undr 400 theres not a whole heck of a lot of difference between stock alum heads and aftermarket btu anythng is better than nothing and after 400 lift is what really sets the heads aparts and those heads will run away from stockers.assuming your running well over a 400 lift cam, hopefully your into the high 500s........2 heads to go with one the lower end of cost..tfs 23's or protoplines....period.......both are about equal and make great power and both use higher quality parts and a better manufactoring process vs others.im leaving afrs out due to the higher cost but they re a good head also.
edelbrocks are a disappiontment to me in terms of quality, especially with the components they use and the tolerances they use.imo
i think you can grab a new set of tfs for just around 1100 if not a few bucks more, look around since i havent priced them lately.
also you need to evaluate and match your heads to your engine and use.also flow numbers dont mean everythign and dont let them decide your fate..like i said if the head flows better over 500 lift but you have a 500 lift cam who gives a crap since your not in the ball park anyways.
also you really need to figure out the size or cc's of your intake.it looks like your running a tpi setup so i cant comment on tpi manifolds since im old school carb guy,but lets use a carb for instance.most street intakes run roughly 190-200 ccs on intake, thats about it,so dont go dropping a set of afrs 225s on an engine with 195cc runners on the intake, you just wasted your head.190-200ccs works for most street applications unless your talking big cubes and or higher rpms.but do your homework and just dont bolt on a set of heads based on higher flow and cc numbers.youll be sorry

Re: Anyone use Dart Pro 1 heads?
I am getting the 200cc intake runner with a 64cc chamber and a thinner head gasket, CR will be around 10.4 and the lift is 554, I was looking at the 1.437 dia springs for that much lift, fully assembled with 2.02 1.60 is 1281 bucks. I don't know if its true but the mechanics in the shop were not impressed with TFS at all. These are old school techs, specializing in crazy cars, anytime you are in the shop its like a freaking TV show, custom track cars, road racers, classic muscle, these guys know their stuff and hearing out of there mouths that TFS has terrible products really made me shy away from them. But I have never used any of their products so I don't personally know.
Re: Anyone use Dart Pro 1 heads?
also, ive never heard anythign really bad about trick flows and you can ask around also they have been shown to make some decent power, but all heads equal, such as afrs, tfs, they dont make a whole heck of a lot mor epower than one another.either way you cant go wrong.
if your looking for heads new,do yourself a favor, buy bare heads and buy good parts made for your engine,ie springs, valves, ..i mean you dont need dual springs and oversize dones if you talking low lifts...also edelbrocks doesnt put much emphasis into quality valve train parts, and example is valves, they use the basic manley valves, wow.even if they had manley s top valve they valves are made in china where quality control of tolerances and metal is a big issue........

Re: Anyone use Dart Pro 1 heads?
I've had two sets of them, both Pro 1 215s with the 2.05/1.6 valves. One set was on a 406 that made over 500 hp, the other set is for a turbo small block I'm building. They work really good once they are ported right, even out of the box they flow what a set of ported factory heads will flow (probably better). What are you putting them on and what are you using for induction?
Re: Anyone use Dart Pro 1 heads?
This is all going on the stock 1987 350 block, keeping low end torque was important so I ported the stock TPI plenum(a lot), ported SLP runners(a lot), and a TPIS big Mouth base, I considdered a MiniRam but this is a daily driver so low end torque matters.
Re: Anyone use Dart Pro 1 heads?
if you want the big heads then forget low end till yougo to a stroker,fyi....but let me ask you this?how soon till stroker?why not just wait for heads till you stroke it.if its only going to be for a short time the time and effort it will be to bolt on these heads to a pretty much stock tpi isnt worth it.
