Question Anyone know what could cause this?

Im new to the TPI I have an LT1 camaro so i need alil help. My uncle has a 86 GTA with a built 355 tpi with all bolt on but with out a CAI. the problem his haven is at low RPMs in drive youll give it some gas and it will try and die. And also in park at idle. But when you rev it up in park you hear a popping noise at the front of the motor?? like it has a miss. Just need some help tracking the problem down.

I am having a similar problem with my new crate motor. Its TPI also but it stalls completely at idle and pops when you rev it. We are looking at the issue but it is slow going. Hopefully you'll get some input but there are so many possibilities.

I'd start with unplugging the MAF and see if the car runs better that way.

EDIT: I dont mean keep it that way BTW. I mean replace it if thats it

Don't tear it apart yet. Check the TPS. It could be faulty. Also, with a better flowing setup, the "Acceleration Enrichment" i.e. AE could need some re-calibration.
Only other things that are common for this would be a seriously retarded ignition timing.
But, the pops from the front of the engine are almost always LEAN pops or retarded timing, and possibly overtightened valves, but that would idle like crap.

Hehe, are you in Iowa now? I'm coming back in less than 2 weeks, for a 2 week vacation. I'll be in DesMoines on around the 1st and 2nd, then go up to north central iowa (northwood/kensett near mason city and clear lake). I'll be working on cars and stuff (including a TPI, and another aftermarket EFI system in a truck), if you want any help.

TPS is throttle position sensor.
