Antifreeze in crankcase
Antifreeze in crankcase
Hello, I have a 1991 z-28 with a 350 and I need some help with finding out why all my antifreeze went into the crankcase. Some people tell me it's not a big deal and to just find out what caused it. Other people tell me that the motor is now junk. I may have driven the car about 100 miles before I found this. What could be the problem, and is the motor still good. It's got about 114000 miles on it now. Thanks.
yup you blew a head gasket
DO NOT drive the car any more until you have it fixed. Your bearings may still be ok, but I would suggest that while you have the engine halfway apart replacing the head gasket you should take a look at your bearings..... nothing worse than buttoning up an engine just to find out that you have to tear it all apart again.

Don't jump to the conclusion that it's the head gasket. It could just as easily be an intake manifold gasket. At least pull the plugs and see if there is any indication of water in any of the cylinders. And do a compression test.
If it does turn out to be a head gasket, at 114,000, this would be a good time to do a "refresh".
