Another head question

what are the best heads to run with this cam..

Comp Cams Roller Cam - 224I,230E @.50/
.513"I,.520"E

However i wanna use the TPI intake.

I know my stock heads are too small for that cam (idk the previous owner did this). I want a decent set of performing heads that are better matched for that type of cam. Im looking for a good set of heads for not too much money..

Re: Another head question

Go to www.thirdgen.org and ask this same question in the TPI forum. Lots of hands on folks there who really like helping with these questions

Re: Another head question

If you have to stay with the TPI, then I'd suggest the GM Fast Burn heads and the Scoggey Dickens (sp?) Vortec TPI base and upgraded runners.

The stock TPI is your limiting factor, if you just change heads. You could put AFR 180's or 195's or Trick Flows on, but you probably won't be getting everything you are paying for (performance wise). (I'd consider the 180's for a stock TPI)

I'm running the CC305 on an extrude honed TPI setup and slightly modded Corvette aluminum heads, It runs OK (plenty of torque), but falls off at higher RPM. I'm planning to switch to the HSR as soon as the car comes out of storage. I just wish I could to do the 195's at the same time.....

Re: Another head question

Yea i know my intake will be a limiting factor (im 17 and need to manage money b/c if youve seen my car..it needs some work lol, not just engine wise, so i wanna get a decent performing engine but not spend alot). Plus the motor came with a ton of goodies already on board, just check my cardomain site. However the whole motor is getting rebuilt because it smokes...so theres more money that i DONT have lol. But im running the stock heads with that cam...its not that it runs bad, but i know the guy who sold me the car and the heads were reworked and rebuild...and now they click. I assume a lifter gave out.. Is it possible for a lifter to give out b/c the cam is too big?

Anyway yea my intake is also ported and i plan on getting a set of slp runners. Though i know it would make more sense to get the stealth ram at this point, i just wanna get the motor back in as soon as possible, so im just gunna go with the slp runners..

..i hate money

And can you give a site where i can find the AFR heads and all the others...

Re: Another head question

That cam is not too big, it won't "kill" a lifter. You could have too much spring pressure and collapsed a lifter, lack of oil pressure, bad lifter, out of adjustment, etc - plenty of places to look.

Check out Jegs, Summit Racing, E-bay, Scoggin Dickey, etc to look at what's out there. Most manufacturers have their websites as well.

If you are planning to go to the HSR later, I'd go for the bigger heads (195's) up front.

Good Luck

Re: Another head question

Dude, the GM 882 heads are by far the best available even better then AFR.195's... And can be had fairly cheap. Swirl port combustion rules!

Trickflow 23 degree heads are hard to beat for the price.
