Angry Am I Being ****? Catalytic Converter Question

Am I being **** or do people just not pay any attention to what they are doing? I took my car into the muffler shop to replace a catalytic converter that was damaged by a tire shop while backing the car of the lift. This same tire shop put the wheels in the wrong position and could not find a broken anti rattle clip after three brake inspections in one month. Anyway, The guys at the muffler shop had a good laugh at how inattentive they were at the tire shop. They put the new cat on and told me to make sure that I raise hell with the guys at the tire shop. I went to the tire shop, showed them the damaged converter, and receipt. They then reimbursed me for the full amount of repairs. On the way home I also noticed what sounded like a small exhaust leak around the converter area. So when I got home I put it up on the ramps and looked at the cat and there is a BIG ARROW POINTING THE WRONG WAY! Is it asking to much that people just take a look at what they are doing? Now do I tell them to turn the thing around while fixing the leaks? It is a “Catco” converter. Also since I have duel cats should I have them replace the other one while they are at it? I realize I’ll have to pay for the second one. I’m just wondering if there is that much more difference in flow. I’m getting pretty frustrated with the shops in this area.

Sorry to those of you who are good professional auto mechanics, but it seems that you can't get good work done anymore some of these so-called ASE mechanics wouldn't make good bicycle techs. I've had some of the same problems, when the mechanic found out I was an airline A&P mechanic they said they always had problems with us. Said we were too **** about our cars, SORRY boys we just want our cars maintained right. We pay you our hard earned money, Damn-it earn it. DO the job right the first time. Don't make us waste our time on return trips, nor your shop's or your reputation. A sign I once read in an auto parts store said "Why is there always enough time to do a job twice but never enough time to do it right the first time". Very true. If you work in a shop as an ASE or even non rated mechanic be a professional be attentive to others property, treat it as if your wife or girlfriend was gonna drive it, I treat Delta's airplanes that way.

I agree with you guys. I'd raise he** if my car was treated like that. The only person who can do the job the way you like is you. For those of us who can't we have to watch the shops very carefully. I am one of these so I only go to shops which let me watch the work being done. If I have questions or spot something not right I question it on the spot. I also don't drive away without first looking over the general work area for damages or misfitting parts. Once you drive away it's harder for you to come back and prove they did the damage.

Well, I try to do as much as I can as far as maintaining my vehicles. Unfortunately I do not have acces to a tire machine or welder. But that is not the point. These guys seem to be charging more and more everytime you go there and the quality of service continues to get worse. One shouldn't have to watch over these guys while they are doing the simplest of tasks. Sadley though it seems like I'm going to have to raise some hell today.

Update: Went to muffler shop. They flipped the converter around and offered to replace the other one for $100. So now I have two high flow converters installed for $100. Good deal. Also went to the local oil and lube place and they let me down in the pit to grease the shift fork, ball stud thing that started sqeaking again. while down there they went ahead and greased the rest of the car. All for $5. Turned out to be a pretty good day.

Heres another exhaust ***** up for the arhcives.

So I have a cutout put on the other day. Works great and sounds the same. But my passenger in the back is complaining that I have hot seats? so I say WTF? Get under the car and look and the retards pointed the opening toward the floorpan, and its heating it up like a **** around town. Freeway its alright. So I go back and they tell me theres nothing they can, that they gave me such a good deal on it that they can't afford to fix it. So I had a flange with it, and asked if I could have a small piece of 45 degree angle pipe welded to the small flange to si can bolt that up and direct the heat away. They say sure..... that will be 65 dollars. I was like you mother *****ers. 65 dollars right when I had the god dam thing installed for 30? So I burned out in the middle of the garage and left. Looks like I will have to rig up a heat sheild of some sort. What azzholes. I swear. Amen about those ASE dudes too, they suck man. No one does quality work, and the ones that do are guys that are like 70 years old and charge enough because they know they can get it. Well, sorry for the rant, just my gripe for the day! Take it easy guys!
