Smile ALDL OBD1 Cable - Anyone use one of these??

Man I just saw that I could get a ALDL OBD1 Cable and plug my laptop into my computer and then use software like TTS Datamaster to see what my car is doing. Isn't the same as the computer my mechanic uses? Or is his system different?

Think I might get this...would love to hear if what I am saying is correct though...

Yeah, I had one when I tried to make my 110lsa cam run in my tpi system...whoah, that was fun.

I had the one with the USB uplink, it's literally plug and play, no hassles.

Datamaster is awsome. I bought it and have been very satisfied. Easy to use and thorough. Definitely worth the money if you want to get serious about programming.

92BLKL98, datamaster lets you program the ecm? I thought it just read back sensor info etc from the ecm...

You are correct TTS Datamaster is an excellent Datalogger, but it is not for programming. I use Tunercat for my programming into Craig Moates Ostrich.

Craig Moates software is free and does just as good a job. There is also freescan which if free also. You don't have to pay to get a decent datalogger.

Question

Checked out www.moates.net and I see the cable for sale but I don't see which piece of software that we need. Does anyone know what the software is called? I see some ODB2 software but that is all...

Look in 'software and drivers' and download 'ecm 852 serial dos based aldl software'

You have to run it after you go to the c: (c prompt).

If you want to use a windows software, click on 'tunerpro rt' and use that one.

If you have some free time, read this whole site:
http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/
It would take you years to read through all of the old archives, but you will learn much, grasshopper.
