air condition????
mine is in dire need of recharging.......what should i expect to pay; the local shop around me wants $220 to recharge because of the type it is.
is this a decent price, what do they usually charge for something like this? i have heard of people converting to the newer type....would this be a better idea? i don't want to remove my a/c, i want a good working system; what should i do? |
go ahead and have it recharged with the 134a all the shop has to do is change the valves. Its a hell of a lot cheaper per pound than R12.
134a = average price for 30 lbs 30.00 R12 = average proce for 30 lbs 60.00 you do the math ------------------ Rob 1985 Camaro 305 4bbl IROC Rims |
Make sure they are pumping the right kind in. Unless the car has been converted it will use the older kind. Are you sure you dont have a leak? If you dont have a leak you can buy a kit from an auto parts store and do it yourself. Goodluck my compressor had a leak and it cost me 900 bucks to get all new stuff and convert it over.
Also if you want to convert it over i think you have to replace the compressor and the condensor. ------------------ 91 RS Camaro 5-speed black w/t-tops 305 TBI now TPI MODS: SLP cold air intake w/K&N, air foil,Accel 19 LB injectors, March aluminum under drive pullies, Alburn pro posi, Aluminum drive shaft, Random Technology 3'' cat-back, 8.5mm MSD wires, 160 thermo, jet fan swich, Custom chip with 91 vette computer, SSBC slotted rotors, optima battery in the rear, BMR adjustable lower control arms and panhard rod, Kenny Brown strut tower brace, TB bypass, no egr, no air [This message has been edited by 91RS5speed (edited July 08, 2002).] |

NO for the conversion you just need to change the valves. I just converted to 134a b.c R12 is so damn expencive and all I had to change was the valves

OPS I forgot a zero.
Question? Why do you guys all change the compressor when you don't have too? |
what is the difference between the two???
i don't want to spend 200+ if i don't have to just to recharge it.........please someone give me a simple solution! http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif thanks again for the replies. |
Just go and have it recharged. YOU DO NOT have to change the compressor. The only think you have to change is the valves. thats it. I spent a total of like 50 bucks.

would they change the valves or do i have to? is there any difference in the cooling or is it just a different material they use?
|
they should do it for you. I don't know about the material or cooling

I'm doing the conversion from R12 tomorrow. It's not that tough, so long as you're careful http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif
|
what if after running the a/c for a small period there is a line of dirt or grease that forms parallel with the belts......??
that's not a good sign is it. http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif what would that mean? |
What part of Mi are you from. I just had to recharge my trucks AC and I got it done at this Midas shop by me. They checked before recharging it to make sure the compressor was good and there were no leaks. They do a really good job. They are on woodward in Royal Oak. I suggest them if you are close.
