Ahh sh*t

Ok fellas. I just bought a new cd player for my RS to go along with the system and had some shop put it in. Well they said that my illumination wire wasnt getting any power so they ran a hot wire right from my fuse box out of the ACC port on the fuse block. Well he said the wire hit ground and started sparking for a quick second. Well i get the car back and my interior lights dont work anymore. Neither does my fan. I dont want to put a manual fan switch on the car unless somethin is messed up. I am getting An SES light too. I think he might of fried the relay but why did the interior lights go out too? Whats my problem? I checked the fan fuse and its fine.

the fuses should have stopped anything from getting hurt, and i think if anything did happen you should have that shop pay for it b/c the guy should have disconneted the battery before doing anything electrical. i know i do.

The guy said he would pay for anything he messed up. The ACC port doesnt have a fuse, its just a blank port in the fuse block. What other fuse could it have blown?

there should be a fuse for the interior lights. get a test light...ground it...and touch both side of all the fuses,if 1 side doesnt light up but the other does than its blown. thats easier than pulling every fuse and and looking at it.

I bet he fried a fusible link. There are 4 or 5 of them coming off the battery post on the starter....you'll need to get under the car and make sure each of them is good. They're easy enough to check, all you need is a test light with a nice sharp point. Once you're under the car, look at the wires coming off the starter. The fusible links will have 4-6" of wire and then a black rubber piece about 1" long. Stab through the wire insulation and make sure they're all getting power past the rubber piece. If one of them isn't...you found your problem. Fix it yourself and charge him $75/hr for labor, or a full refund.

And never use that shop again. They obviously don't know what they're doing. Any tech who knows anything knows not to "just run a wire from the fuse box." That's a hack-job. Also any reputable shop will fix what they mess up, instead of giving you back a car that's worse off than when you started. I would get fired for that kind of crap. Tell your friends so they don't have the same kind of problem.

Take it to a good shop, have them install the stereo right, fix whatever he screwed up, rent a car for the day you don't have yours, and give the guy all the bills

The 4" piece of wire between the eye and the rubber is what acts as a fuse. The wire itself will melt in 2 if the current gets too high. Just check each one past the rubber, and when you find one with no power cut it off past the rubber and put a new link in. You might not even have to check them...sometimes they'll melt the insulation right off and you can tell which one it is just by looking.

i would drop it off at a shop and get it looked at since the shop you took it to broke it. they will pay for full damages, why waste the time?

Well it was one of my buddies friends that did it for me so i dont want to be an ***.

GreatJ- I checked all the lines and they all get power except for one wire. It isnt one with a link tho. Its a purple wire and it isnt melted anywhere but it does not have power? Im stumped.

The thick purple wire only goes hot when you turn the key to "start." That's the wire that actuates the starter solenoid. It should connect to the small post on the starter, not the big one.
