98 K1500 4l60e trans bolt in for thirdgen?
Re: 98 K1500 4l60e trans bolt in for thirdgen?
First off I've never seen that transmission and I don't know much about it.
Now that that's out of the way. The "e" on the end of the 4l60 designates that it's electronically controlled. No thirdgen ever came with the e-controlled tranny. Only fourthgen. I also know that at least on older 4l60/700r4 trannys the tailshaft between 4wd and 2wd are different so the transfer case will bolt up. Along that same line, I'm geussing the 1500 doesn't use a torque arm setup on the rear axle so you'll have no way to bolt your stock one to the transmission.
And does the 98 have the LS* based motor? If so the bellhousing won't bolt up to the older style gen1 small block.

Yep it`ll bolt in............that`s it though. The 4l60e is shifted by electric selnoids that are commanded by the pcm, yours wont do that. The transmissions pretty much broke down like this: up till 92 it was named the TH 700R4 shifted by throttle valve and governor...93-97 The 4L60E shifted by the PCM and torque converter lock up was beginning to be used more like a clutch than an ON/OFF. 98-99 4L60`s Bellhousing is now removable from the case and torque converter is controlled thru a pulse width type modulator for accel and decel. The 4L60`s that came with the LSx motors will bolt up, pattern is the same minus 1 bolt hole input shaft lengths are different I think though

There were minor revisions along the way, howver the electronic control in the 94+ was the only major difference.
