91 Z28 window lift motor replacement
91 Z28 window lift motor replacement
Guys, thanks for the post on intake gasket replacement last week. Took my time, had back together in just over 1 day, no leaks at all.
Now my next project is the power windows. Neither work, i was hoping for a fuse or switch dead, but nope, getting juice just weak *** motors.
Anyways, ive gotten both door panels off, and stuff. Drilled 2 rivits out that appeared to be holding the motors in but cant tell what the hell else is in there holding the motor on?
Any tips?
Also does the window need to be up or down?
Thanks
Brad

It's been awhile since I did mine. But this should get you started just try to get the window a 1/4 down then drill out all the rivits holding the regulator in. (4 I think) I left the window in the door.Had someone hold it up out of the way while I slid the regulator out of the door then drill of the motor and put the new one on. and repart the process. adj. it just right is a pain too. when you get it all back together roll the widow up with the door closed and then set your adjustments. the up and down adj. you will have to play with the most.
you should buy a helm inc or a haynes service manual (i reccomend www.helminc.com). The helm inc service manual has over 3000 pages of info on how everything is put together on your car and is worth its weight in gold. Sounds like the kind of thing that could be really useful for you.
thanks for the replies.
Got em working like charms now.
I do have a GM service manual, but that part was vague as hell.
I can do this stuff myself, just want to make sure i do it the right way. with all the pros on here i figure I may pick up some secrets to shortcuts.
This is my first camaro, just something to play around with.
I have had about 12 4th gen monte carlo SS, and can take those things apart with my eyes closed.
Still have an 86 Monte SS Aerocoupe, but it is mint and nothing i need to tinker with on it.
I work on race cars for a living, alot of the same prinicples apply here but with all this computer stuff and wiring it looks more intimidating than it really is i have came to learn.

I am happy you could use the info from the boards in your gasket swap.
I had to do my own windows as well.....took about 2 hours for the first, then about 30 minutes for the second, since I knew what to do the second time around.
Although you can find a wealth of info from some greats folks on this board, I also recommend checking out
www.thirdgen.org
its site that is dedicated to our 3rd Gens and is technical in nature.
Check it out, there is even an article on changing power window motors in a 3rd gen, titled "Power Windows 101"
If you need any other help just ask. I have had just about every piece of my Camaro taken apart for one reason or another, most recently the front facia and chin spoiler where off for a re-spray.
Happy wrenching,
