91 Z28 Question

Hey guys I own a 2001 SS now and am thinking of replacing my daily driver (92 Olds 88) with a 91 Camaro Z28 with 130,000 miles.

It is the 5.7 (Hardtop) and is blue. It runs great and suspect it has gears and exhaust. I got on it at 50mph on the highway (A Little Wet) and it got sideways then took off! Seemed very quick more so than a stock TPI.

My question is, is it a 1LE and if so is that kinda rare?

This is my fav model of Camaro and have always wanted one so I prob. will pick it up tomorrow for $3000 after trade. Does that seem fair for this year? It is kinda rough inside, headliner sagging no radio ripped driver side leather seat, also has broken Tranny mount, but the car drove very well!

If it is a 1LE it will not have air, you can look in the side storage compartment in the rear storage area and see if the RPO sheet is still on the door (driver side).

Around here that would be a good price on a decent 91 Z.

Good luck with the car.

I have 148,000 miles on my 92 Z and I am using it as a daily driver.

I dont think 1LE's had leather seats, but if its really a 1LE it wouldnt have air conditioning, like said above.

With over 100,000 miles on it, the next item to go would be the transmission. $3000 is a little cheap, so be wary.

Good luck!

Just pop open the glovebox and check out the rpo sheet... it'll say 1LE on it... but i'm sure it's not a 1LE. Sounds like it could be an OK project, but also sounds beat and neglected... I don't see how people can't take care of their cars.

in 91' there were 478 1LE camaros built. Air conditioner delete was not mandatory. 1LE may not appear on the bilud sheet. RPO G92 (performance rear axle) triggered 1LE. Whe norder with the A/C it came with an engine oil cooler and 4 wheel 1LE disc brakes.

However when ordered with the A/C delete G92 triggered 1LE, which in turn triggered heavy duty 1LE front brakes, aluminum drive shaft and space saving spare wheel, special shocks, gas tank baffle and swinging gas tank pick-up for hard cornering.

Instead look for G92 on the build list, 1LE was only listed on some of the cars, mostly cars with the A/C delete.

G92 does not mean 1LE. All 90-92 5.7's were G92's and most 305/5speed were G92 as well. That isn't a 1LE, that's just a G92 car. You got the better cam, gears, exhaust, and brakes, but not the 1LE package. A true 1LE will have both rpo 1LE and G92 listed.

Not to be mean, but not all 5.7 91-92 Z28's were G92's. I have a 1991 Z28 5.7 and it's an L98.....every 5.7. L98's have 245 HP and 345 pounds of torque and I think the G92's were a little more under rated then the L98's. The 1991 Z28 either had the G92 or the L98 package. There is a guy I go to school with that has a 1991 1LE......it dosen't have power windows or a power seat.....But.....that sounds like a great deal to me......you can't find 91 or 92 Z28's around here AT ALL!!

No 1LEs ever came with AC. I have a dealers ordering sheets and it even states that AC is not available with the 1LE option. Now with a 1LE code the foglights are deleted if the dealer place the order with the 1LE code after the foglamp code. If you put the 1LE code in first then the foglamp code after then you got a 1LE with fogs. Look at the driveshaft. If its not aluminum then its not a 1LE unless someone replaced it. If it is then look at the calipers and rotors. The 1LEs had a two piston PBR caliper. L98 tells you the motor while G92 has to do with the rearend gearing.

Someone needs to re-read their RPO codes. L98 and G92 for example.

a 5.7 is an L98? hmmm... duh. ALL 90-92 350/5.7/L98/whateverelseyouwanttocallit were G92's, period. G92 was the performance package that was added to the car, not the engine. You got either the L98 or LB9, then you got the G92 performance package...

G92 with air conditioning (C60):

Optional axle ratio (305/3.42, 350/3.23)
Rear disc brakes (J65)
Performance exhaust system (N10) (dual catalytic converters)
Engine oil cooler (KC4)
5.0 liter TPI (LB9) with 5 speed gets revised cam for 230hp rating.

since you're a newbie, i'll let this slide without any further detail... if you pose an ignorant question or responce again, i'll be forced to use an unlimited amount of resources to prove you wrong.

Well....maybe you should have said that in the first place....you never even mentioned L98 in your first post and you should have, so, don't threaten me your little sayings like this: "if you pose an ignorant question or responce again, i'll be forced to use an unlimited amount of resources to prove you wrong." I'm not trying to be mean or challenge anyone with what they know.

I guess i'll re-word it for you...

"All 90-92 5.7 L98 350's were G92's and most 305 LB9 5.0 5speeds were G92 as well."

Good?

I didn't mean to sound like an @$$, sorry for you taking that way, I was just messing around
