91 Z28 Ls6

I just got my tax return which was right around 8 grand for the kids and crap... i was looking into a crate engine and had seen on gm that a ls6 described as follows (This is a production engine for a 2005 Cadillac CTS RPO LS6 with
5.7L and 405 horsepower. This production engine includes an
aluminum block, aluminum heads, crankshaft, rods, pistons, valve
train, camshaft, valve covers, oil pan, intake manifold, throttle
body, exhaust manifolds, balancer, and flywheel. It does not
include any electronics.) My questions are these. Being that there is no electronics will i need a new computer?? which one?? what kind?? also will this engine work with my stock tranny?? if not what should i look for and what else in this set up would i need to have a competed set up? i figured all you smart guy can flex your brains on this one. thanks in advance

No an LS6 will not directly bolt up to a factory '91 tranny. Of ANY sort. YES you will need a ECM to run that high-tech LS6. You will more than likely need a 6spd that came outta the Caddie, or find out what else they were put into.

Your going to need the computer and wiring harness,as well as a newer fuel pump to run that motor.

Im not sure if you can change the bellhousing on the trans to get it to work or not...I know the LSX motors have 2 more bolts than a standard SBC/BBC.

Its an involved swap, as mentioned, you definitely need the tranny, the PCM, the wiring harness, ect. You should check out the Hybird forum on LS1tech.com, there have been several of these types of swaps done and talked about over there.

I think if you have to ask these big questions you really aren't ready to do this.

i would agree. there is quite a bit too it. if you have that kind of coin go pick up a used 50k mileage ls1 trans, engine, harness and ecm for around 3500. spend the other $1,500 in the parts needed for the swap and get to it or pay another $1,000 and have someone else do it for you.

good luck with it, it's alot of fun. i have three cars now with different lsx motors. great gas mileage too.
