91 RS 305 questions

Sup guys, I'm considering buying a 91 RS to use as a commuter.

Any SBC head will bolt up to the 305 correct?

How many FWHP can that stock bottom end take?

What RPM can a stock 305 take before ripping itself apart? (assuming some heads to feed it)

I'm not looking to make this thing into a racecar, I'm just wondering what the limitations are for a mild workover on a budget.

thanks in advance,

-brent

Yes, but if the heads are for a 350+CI motor, have them milled or your compression will go in the crapper. 305's have the same crank as a 350 so figure around ~6k before pistons start flying
FWHP--Once again, same crank/rods/pistons (smaller bore though) so probably the same as a regular 350.

IMO, As a commuter I think the perfect car would be a 98+ Camaro V6 M5. About same performance as a 305 RS, little better actually, (believe it) and better gas mileage. Plus just a newer, most likely more reliable, user friendly car. Price is a differrent story though. Either way, good luck!

6,000 rpm is about the safe limit. With a stock L03 you'll have a major power drop off well before 6 grand. With my modified L03, I often see over 6 grand when autocrossing (new heads, intake, cam / stock short block).
