9 inch rearend

New to this site. I have been reading posts here for a couple weeks just finally joined, great site. Anyway My question is this, I have a disc braked 9 inch ford rear end sitting around and have heard that the rearend in my 87Z is weak. I know that Moser has a direct bolt in but where do I get all the shock mounts, lower contol mounts ect. do do all the fabing myself? Who makes a good rear suspinsion set-up for our cars?

You can cut off the LCA, panhard bar and shock mounts off the old diff and weld them onto the old 9". The trouble you're going to have is finding a way to attach the torque arm onto the 9" housing. Not all diffs are the same. You could end up with a diff that's too wide or narrow to fit under the third gen.

What makes you think your diff is weak? A 10 bolt can take more abuse than most people give it credit. It doesn't take much to beef it up. A 9 bolt is even stronger.

Good rear suspension is www.spohn.net

Thanks for the reply, the problem is that my new motor is almost done, should get the heads back this week and we estimate about 450 hp to the flywheel, not sure if the rearend can handle this. I have thought about just putting new gears in. I have the nine inch out of a lincoln that would have to be narrowed, not sure what dirrection to go?

thanks again for all the help.

Use the stock diff until you abuse it enough that it breaks. Then decide if an upgrade to a 9" is required.

Yeah I think you are absolutely right. I noticed your car, very sweet. I see that you have raced at Yakima, that is where they held the team finals this year. A friend of mine went. I race at Bremerton raceway, ever been there?

Thanks for the advice
