Question 89 engine cleaning

I just bought a real nice 89 RS and the engine needs a good cleaning, what the best way to do it. Can I use the car wash wand on it or what. I dont dare do that with my 97 Z28 because of the opti spark.

Yes, you can use the car wash wand. Its pressure will help cut through some of the greasy dirt builpup. Do it with the engine warm to soften the grease (unless you can steam clean it.) Only 3 things to cover up: distributor, alternator, throttle position sensor. Never had problems with any other stock electronics. Get yourself an old toothbrush or paintbrush with bristles cut short to help you wipe dirt out of narrow places. Bring a bottle of a good household grease cutter and lots of rags to work on specific areas. I've found that a pair of kitchen gloves not only keeps the grease off my hands, they also offer some protection from the sharp things that can cut your hands.
