88 Iroc Convertible Detuned????
Why is the 305 TPI automatic in an 88 Iroc Convertible have such a lower rating (195 vs 220) than a 305 TPI automatic in non-convertibles?
What was changd? Is it just a change in chip to get it back to 220?

Where are you getting the HP ratings from?
The difference between the 195HP 305 and 220HP 305 in 88 had to do with the manual trans/G92 optional gear ratio package. They got a more aggressive camshaft. The autos got the weaker "peanut" cam. That was the 25HP difference. The convertible option had nothing to do with it.

If you are going to change the cam, you might as well swap in some headers, 3" exhaust, and some other goodies while you are it. A cam is not a hard swap, but it is quite an undertaking none-the-less. And you can always add a nicer cam if you are looking for power. I think the 305 5spds just got the 350 TPI cam where as the 305 A4's got a totally different, weaker cam. Shop around.

I put a Comp Cam, some WP 305 S/R Torquer heads, some SLP runners and a full Edelbrock exhaust etc. on my 305TPI 'vert, and it sure as heck woke it up Don't have any actual numbers, but the Desktop Dyno said roughly 290hp, but I do not know how close that is to the truth. It did make a major difference though!
