Re: 87iroc 350tpi supercharger?

Nobody makes a TPI supercharger kit for an 85-87 V-belt F-Body. Several companies used to, but stopped production many years ago.

If you want to supercharge you car, and do it in kit form, you have 2 options:

1. Try to locate an old kit. You will not find one new, but a search here and over at www.thirdgen.org might yield results. Good luck though, as there are several people looking and used V-belt supercharger kits are very hard to come by.

2. Convert to a serpentine setup. Its not hard at all, and if you can afford a supercharger kit, what's another $100-$150? Complete serpentine setups (with accessories) can be found here, www.thirdgen.org, www.nethirdgen.org, www.ebay.com, etc etc for that price. Local junkyards may be of some help as well. Don't go over $200 though unless it includes new accessories.

Re: 87iroc 350tpi supercharger?

You might be able to use the alternator, ac compressor, and power steering pump. But the mounting holes and hardware are slightly different, and would require fabrication to setup. The water pump definately will not work, as it rotates in reverse on the serp setup. Just get the accessories with the serp setup!

The AIR pump (smog pump) is an output only for the ECM. And as there is no feedback from the system, the ECM will not recognize the lack of it. No codes will be stored.

klumb15 - Whats the big deal? Did you miss my above post where I stated that a complete serp setup INCLUDING accessories can be had for less than $200? And again, what's that after spending several thousand on a supercharger kit?

Yes, a 90 Corvette TPI has a serpentine setup. However, that serpentine setup is different from an F-body. Vette supercharger brackets are different. You'll encounter the same problem here as you already have...

Re: 87iroc 350tpi supercharger?

hey z,go for it man, replace it with an serpentine set up,like it stated earlier you can get a complete used set for 100-150 bucks,or you can go to your local boneyard and bargin for one,,theyre so plentiful..i mean any camaro, firebird, caprice, roadmaster, full size pickup, and the forgotten s10 with the 4.3s..this includes 4.3 caprice taxis...theres a ton out there, swapping accesories aint tough,i mean the power steering is 2 hoses with youll probably be able to use your old ones,if not any auto parts store can make the high pressure one,the other one is just a rubber hose, the alternator youll probably be able to use your old one, just might have to splice an additional foot or 2 of wiring in there since i think it might be on the opposite side with the serpentine, smog pump like he said might be there ,but you dont need it and wont set of codes, just check to see if u have emission testing and if they do visual checksmcause if they do youll need it otherwise youll fail right away.and the ac compressor will work from your old one but youll need need lines from the newer models since that is definetley mounted on the other side of engine.and the one thing youll need tio buy is a new water pump period, your old one wont work for the simple reason serpentines spin opposite yours,so using yours wont work...but other than that youll have a new system, cleaner loooking, and a single easy to change belt..and now youll be able to put power pulleys on also......dont be intimidated if your not sure...just do your homework b4..

Actually, the accessories will interchange with the exception of the water pump and the alternator. You will definately need to buy a new water pump, about $68 bucks from Napa. As for the alternator, just buy the housing and swap the guts over. You can get them from most starter/alternator shops for about $20 bucks. The biggest PITA is the pulleys, I bought a powersteering pulley from a junk car, and ordered March pulleys for the rest of the system when I converted my GTA.

One more thing I'd like to add:

If your car was originally equipped with a clutch fan, you will need to convert over to an electric fan. The serpentine water pumps are reverse rotation, and the stock fan will not pull air. They make a reverse rotation clutch fans, but none specifically for a 3rd gen. You might be able to use a late model truck fan.
