87 Stang GT vs 89 Formula WS6

I'm looking at 2 different cars right now:

One is an 89 Formula Firebird, 305 TBI with a 700R4 and the WS6 package. I think it has a stock posi rear, but I cant be too sure. The car is basically stock besides an exhaust.

The other car is an 87 Mustang GT, 302 FI, 5spd, possibly a posi as well, I don't know for sure. From what I know this car is stock as well.

I'm guessing that the Mustang would be faster due to the 5 speed and the EFI over the TBI. What do you guys think, both cars are going for the same price and I want a solid, somewhat quick car that will gain good HP for the $$.

Also, does anyone know of a 86-92 Stang site like this one?

Thanks.

TBI is the worst EFI for our cars. If those are your only choices then I hate to say it but the Mustang is your better choice. Why not keep looking for a TPI f-body?

Definitely still looking for a TPI car, but nothing in my price range right now. Maybe things will spring up after X mas.

Come next spring/summer, a lot more sports cars will be going on the market. Don't settle for less than you want. Just wait and find a nice TPI car

ehh... dont even think about getting anything with tbi on it. anyone who has a tbi engine should seriously think about donating it to the ocean to create an artificial reef, lol. get the mustang if your in a hurry... but if you can wait a few more months, keep your eye open for a 305 or 350 tpi. i got my 350 tpi for 2700 and all i needed to do was get a new paint job and fix the ac compressor. i never use the ac so it's all gooooood but seriously... dont get the mustang unless you can't find yourself a tpi. that low end torque from the tpi is such a thrill to feel

but to be realllllllly honest, its hard to beat the 5.0 for bang-for-the-buck. And the 5 speed cars are fun to drive. They are more poorly built than the f bodies though. Expect a lot of creaks and rattles. Check out the mustang section in summit. Lots of cheap goodies.

I have a TBI and it is slow, thats why i am throwin a LT1 into it, Mine is a 5speed, and i raced a 5.0 stang and got beat but not too terribly bad, i would go with the WS6 out of those two cars though because i like the way the formula looks over that ugly fox body, your choice though

If it was a 5speed firebird, I would say go with that. Everyone hates TBI here, but I like it alot. VERY reliable. Maybe my car is a freak, but with very few mods its a 91 camaro rs that runs low 14's...I beat my freinds 91 stang till the top of 3rd and he runs low 13s. My other friend who runs high 13s and I beat him till 110. Their cars are constantly breaking down...mine hasnt once with 130k...(knock on wood). Mustangs are (quick) to a point, then you have to put a blower on them to make them go (fast).

between those 2 cars i would pick the Formula....but thats just b/c im racist againt mustangs (or fords for that matter) and id swap a TPI or a holly stealth ram (if u dont have emissions).

u can throw some flowmasters,3.73's,and a 5" tach w/ light and have a pretty quick 'stang...but they are alot uglier than any 3rd IMO.

Well that question sure came outta left field, but as far as i kno the LT1 intake is longer than a L98 intake or something like that, thats why you cant use it, dont think you can convert

Well I'm pretty sure the Stang is gone, but I do have an opportunity to pick up an 87 Chrysler Conquest TSI with only 75k on it for a very good price, so I think the Firebird may have to wait. We'll see what happens though.

GO WITH THE CONQUEST!!!! those things are so damn cool, and very rare, the only thing is they sometimes have engine trouble, i would get that... nobody knows what it is, and it is fast as hell, lucky find!
