... all kinds for whining and popping... i got a disk brake rearend off of a 88 iroc it is a manual 305... what will i need to get off of the 88 to make it work on my 87 (master cylinder, ebrake cable)?.. also i heard that there was a recall on the ebrake cable on the disk.. pre 89.. should i go and buy a new cable??? thanks in advance

ull need the proportioning valve,e-brake cables. it may be easier just to unbolt the brake booster and take that, master cylinder, and prop. valve out as a whole. 4 bolts hold it on,and then undo the couple brakes lines on the prop. valve.
hope this helps

Although the proper master cylinder/proportioning valve for the disc rear is recommended, it is not necessary. Several people have done the drum/disc swap and reused the existing drum brake MC/prop valve with no problems - me included.
The E-brake issue you are referring to is for the rear calipers, not the cables. If the caliper piston sticks after applying the e-brake, replace the calipers.

thanks a bunch... do you think that i will need or recommended that i get the master cylinder/ brake buster just to be safe?.. also with the calipers do you think that i should get a recall kit for them to be safe?... and again thanks a bunch

You can leave the power brake booster alone. They are the same.
Those older 85-88 iron calipers are known for that problem. The 89 and later PBR calipers are the way to go. They were used on all rear disc setups from 1989 to 1997. I've never rebuilt or replaced a set of rear 85-88 calipers so I can't help much more
I just put a disc brake rear in my car today that had drums before. The only thing that was different is the brake lines and the e-brake cables. I used the old prop valve without any problems.
