Exclamation 86 T/A $3500?

I recently found an 86 T/A that has 87,000 miles on it. The engine is a 350 TPI that was rebuilt a couple years ago and has roughly 20,000 miles on it. The car was originally equiped with a 305. Its an automatic and shifts good. The body is clean with no rust and the paint is new. The paint is certainly not show quality with numerous imperfections but no peeling or anything drastic like that. It drives nice. The guy is asking $3500 for it. Do you guys think it is worth it?

i bought my 86 firebird in 1995 for $3500, and it was just a plain V6 2.8, so be weary, and look online at edmunds or kelly blue book to see how much its actually worth. And another thing...firebirds and trans ams in my experience are bombs, nothing but problems, i put over 12,000 into my 86 firebird since ive had it, much better luck with camaros. 86 was a bad year for pontiac firebirds and ta's.

panterachik,

i've had no problems, with my firebird, the only thing that actually went wrong that i had to fix, was a blower motor, (somehow had hair wrapped up in it, and ran slow if at all, not to mention extremely hot), and when the car was a v6 i lost 3rd and 4th in the 700r4, at which time we converted to v8. i understand that your post concerned an 86 and mine is an 84. i'm just putting in a good word for the firebirds

ok here why i hate my firebird, got the car and as soon as i did, the radiator blew up, the engine completely died which i had to replace, went through 4 alternators in 1 year, the seal that connects the exhaust to the motor kept breaking making it sound like a big rig, the computer chip went out on me, i had to get my tranny rebulit, and the electrical system went haywire on me, look im not saying all firebirds are crap, im just saying the year 86 was a bad one becuase its not only me that has had major probs with 86

Sounds bad to me.. I bought my 86 Iroc z-28 fully loaded with t-tops for 2k flat. I had to drive to tulsa to get it, but it was well worth it. she was a 305 and the tranny was slipping, but I drove her home had the tranny rebuilt and drove it for awhile. She ran 15.86 all stock except the tranny which was double clutched and hardened everything. I pullled the motor and am rebuilding the car, I guess it all depends on what you want.. Go to Autotrader.com and search for a car, I would choose a camaro over the firebirds or the gta's, for one the headlight motors go to quick.. I found mine where there is no rust and only had 46k on it.. great deal to me.. but it depends on what you want, rebuild, daily driver, or whatever..
