86 speedometer ?

i have an 86 t/a with a t-5 tranny and my speedometer does not work at all. There are 2 wires coming off of some sort of sensor (near the output shaft) on the tranny that didnt connect to anything when i got the car. Does anyone know if that is for the speedo and what would i need to make it work again? thanks

If that is the only wire/cable that is coming out of the tranny near the tailhousing, then yes.

My car still has the mechanical speedo, I didn't know they did any electric speedo's before '88. Although someone may have tried to convert it before you bought it.

Pull the guage cluster and see if it has an input behind the speedo for a cable, or if the whole panel is electric. Let us know what you find.

It should be a digital dash. In which case, the harness should come down from the middle of the firewall in the engine compartment, by the bellhousing, back to the transmission, etc.
