86 Camaro - 26 spline rear?

I have an 86 Z28, 4bbl, 305, 5spd. Do I have a 26 spline rear? I know it's 3.23 ratio and open. I have a 2001 S-10 that I am putting a Detroit locker in, and I was thinking that I could put the stock Eaton posi from my S-10 in my 86 Camaro. But then it hit me, I think the early model 7.5's have 26 spline? If so, would a 28 spline shafts fit from a late model S-10? I could probably pick those up cheap at a junk yard if so.

Yep, 26. They changed to 28 in ~89/90

probably not,l you just need axle shafts from a 90-92 camaro/firebird

89 was the changeover year, they could have either

Yea, that makes sense, I will look for that at a junk yard! Thanks.

You will also need a carrier for 28 spline axles...

88 was the last full year of the 26 spline cars, 90 was the first full year of the 28 spline, in 89, it was a mid year running change

A lot of folks just go to Moser and buy their 28 spline axles for about $200. I think GM charges at least $300

One more question. Will the 7.5 ring gear fit on the 28 spline Eaton Carrier that had a 7.625 ring gear originally? I am guessing it should be the same ID on the ring gear and same holes?
