86 to 89 Engine Help
86 to 89 Engine Help
We had a wrecked 86 with good engine, and a 89 with just a blown block left, top of engine was stripped off. We have swapped the 86 engine into the 89, trying to use the 89's wiring harness. We have no spark to the plugs. Does the fan motor have to be plugged in to finish a circuit for it to start? We have already blocked the security out, so thats not the problem. We're stupped. They were both 305's. 86 was an automatic and the 89 is still a manual. I would appreciate any help of what could be causing it not to turn over the rest of the way. E-mail is CrazeVixen@aol.com

Did you diable the VATS in the chip?
Did you install a bypass resistor?
The VATS is designed to disable the starter, and fuel injectors. Even if you get the starter to turn the injectors won't fire.
Re: 86 to 89 Engine Help
If the VATS is not disabled or a resister put in place to simulate the chip on the key, the gauges will move to extreme like it is starting but nothing will work as far as the cranking and fuel injectors go. If you are getting it to crank then I doubt it is the VATS.
