'83 police package camaro?

Hey guys, I got a friend who claims he has an '83 police package camaro. I thought they only made third gen police package camaros in 91 and 92. He has also told me that he has turned the car around from catching 2nd gear in the middle of a two land road, so I am assumming he is full of BS.

I know the car is a Z28 '83 with a carb 305. It doesn't have disc brakes in the rear and the tranny is a 700R4.

The only police package I know of is the B4C and they didn't start making those until 91... They also have rear disc brakes, TPI engines, and 6-speeds.

No 6 speeds. Autos only due to the 350 L98 motor.

No 83 police as for as i know, and the fastest thing in 83 was 165 horsepower. Cool looking CFI. Sucked though.

I knew he was full of BS, just wanted to run it buy you guys, to make sure, b4 I stick him to it. Why do younger guys lie so much to other guys anyway? I could almost see it if I were a hot chick and he wanted to get into my pants... that might not sound right

I am curious where you get your info from? To the best of my knowledge 6-speeds weren't available until 1993 in the F-Body. Prior to that, you could get either the 305 TPI w/5-speed or the 350 TPI with the 700R4 auto trans for the B4C Camaros (Police Package) I did see a comment about a "ZF 6 speed" with the 350 TPI in a 92 B4C on some random website, but no data to back it up. Do you have more info on a 3rd gen with a 6 speed?

You are correct about the B4C package not coming out till late in the 3rd Gen run.......to compete with the 5.0 Mustang LX packages. IIRC, the B4C started in either the late 80's (88 or 89) or 1991........I am pretty sure it was 91 though. I tried looking it up and couldn't find any info specifically but I also haven't seen any posts/websites/etc talking about B4C Camaros prior to 1991. If anyone has a link to different info, I would be most appreciative.

I read a similar article, but those are the only 2 places I have ever heard mention of that.......this is one of the better places I have found for specs on 3rd Gens:

Re: '83 police package camaro?

My old man had a '92 B4C (he was a state trooper). His was an automatic, and to his knowledge, all of the state patrol's camaros were.

No police package. However it it's equipped with an Eaton Guv-lock differential with burned-out preload clutches it is definitely possible to swap ends when hitting second gear on a hard-throttle left-hand turn. Some of the F-bodies got them in 1983 and 1984, including mine. GM swapped them in at random it seems, whenever supplies ran low. They got them from the S10 truck line.

^Why would that make it believable that the rear end came around??

Re: '83 police package camaro?

First off, there were no B4C "police packages" available in 83. Was only available in 91 and 92.

Second, there were no 6 speed camaros until 93.

Third, thirdgen 350's never came with a manual, automatics were the only transmissions used on L98. The manual was too weak to support the torque and would break.

Fourth, another feature of the B4C package was the overdrive being locked into a fourth gear, instead of being used only for overdrive.
