80,s vette
raced a late 80,,s vette tonight possibly a 89 or so. well needles to say i got my *** handed to me. offline i remained with my nose just behind his passanger side mirror couldnt torque up nose to nose now once he shifted into second i had had to instantly let off he was so far ahead. my question is i think i did decient on torque with the amount of mods i have what do you guys think. or should i with a 305 be running next to him all the time i think the vettes are lighter with those aluminum heads and beefed up cam they came with

OK lets think about this for a while. He has a bigger engine a lighter car and his car comes from the factory with an scaled down version of an Indy car. Yeah I think that you did really good staying as close as you did. It also matters how you run your power curve. If you are running it so high that you torque is starting to fall off then you need to look at your shift points. BUT over all I give you that congrats slap on the back.

A vette is nothing like a scaled down version of an Indy car...The 89 Vettes had the 350TPI instead of the 305 TPI....In first gear I'd expect him to pull probably a car on you assuming you both get good launches but after that it'd be over. The 305 autos starting in 86 got a CRAP cam that pretty much kills them above 4400rpm. 350 cars still have problems breathing but the better cam coupled with better heads and more CI just make it a more powerful car period. You didn't do too bad but had you kept racing I think you would have been shocked at how bad the outcome would have been.
