Yeah, it'll put up with it for a while. Depending on how mant miles are on the tranny now, it'd be nice to rebuild it a little stronger. Obviously you don't plan on babying it everywhere, so I'd say look into a rebuild sometime soon. A solid rebuild and it will do fine behind that engine.

My 700r4 was completely original (180,000 miles) and the 350 HO w/TPI scrambled it!!! I got a rebuild done and it is now basically bulletproof. Just have enough cash just in case it happens to you.

180k is a lot of mileage.....a lower mileage tranny should hold up for a while at least. You should still expect your next major mod to be a tranny rebuild though. My 140k mile 700R4 lasted about a year behind the 355 before it went up in smoke (which I used as an excuse for a T-56 swap.)

I'd get it rebuilt by www.rosslertrans.com and it should. Mine was able to handle my 383 for 3.5 years before I broke a sun shell gear during one of my daily power runs.

I'd say dump the R-4 and go w/ a turbo 200.
Also, now would be a good time for good subframe connectors. trust me, you flex the unibody too much, and you'll hate life.

GM rebuilt my 700R4 and a few months later, I stuck in a LPE 383. 6 months of babying the car and the tranny died.

So, in response to your statement: If you're making the power I think you are making, not for long.

The 200R4 is a good unit if built right. Grand Nationals run them. But, since the car has a 700R4 the question is why? You'd have to get a longer drive shaft to run a 200, the 700 has a better first gear ratio, and it'll hold up w/a good rebuild.

If you're referring to a 3 spd auto, I know of no th200. There again, why? W/a performance oriented rebuild, the 700 will hold up as well at a 3spd auto. Why not keep the better first gear ratio and have an OD?

I completly agree with u Greed4Speed logicaly, there is no point in putting a 3 spd. Another question, does anyone know what is my factory rear end ratio for my '84 Z-28???

I was referring to the 2004r. higher od ratio, much tougher than a 700 r4 will ever be.
Believe me or don't, your choice, but I've had 28 3rd gens, and I've blown a few 700r4's. It's your money, spend it right, or you'll spend it again.

700r4 can be built just as tough as a 200r4. I've seen the 700 live behind quick big block cars and I've seen the 200 live behind quick turbo'd 3.8s. Its all in how it is built and taken care of. I'd recommend a trans cooler for either one. I've also heard that the 87 and later 700's are stronger.
