5.0 to lt1 swap

Hey does anyone know how much it would cost to swap from a 5.0 to a lt1. My engine is ****ed up so I am thinking about just swapping engines and then selling my other one but I have no idea where to even start or what it would cost? If anyone has any ideas or input, let me know. Thanks

it that including buying the engine, I believe you need a new transmission too right, computer, just about everything. I see in your sig that you swapped. How long did it take? Did you do it yourself?

That price is for a complete running LT1 with 4L60E, PCM and custom harness.
The actual shipped price for the one I installed in a friends 82 Trans Am was $4795 from www.speartech.com
The harness they supplied is the best one I ever installed, totally plug and play. Car fired right up on the first try.
He ended up putting another $10,000 into the car to get it the way he wanted it.
Here are pics of the car before and after the LT1 swap,

My setup was a bit cheaper, $1000 for the motor with pcm and harness from a Caprice, $650 for a 4L60E from a 95 Z28, $250 for a set of Aluminum Vette heads, $150 for a cc306 cam.
I still need to wire up mine and since I have the caprice harness there are some wiring mods to do.

Oh, the 82 LT1 swap took about 10 days total. It was actually 30 days but it rained for 20 of them and we did the swap in my driveway so we didnt' work when it rained.

Mine is not yet done.

So your swap only cost about $2000? Give or take a little? How did you know how to do it? A lot of car knowledge or what?

A lot of reading. There are quite a few members on thirdgen.org that have done the swap already, so I just read thier posts and asked questions.
I've been learning about cars for the past 3 years when I bought my 86 Trans Am. Before I got the Trans Am, I didn't know anything. Now I can program chips, convert from carb to fuel injection, swap motors, etc..
I still need to learn to do body work.

Here are some recent shots of my setup,

It all depends on how nice you want it to turn out.

Lots of people go with worthless harnesses. I used a Howell harness from TPIS and it was plug and play and VERY well manufactured.

Check out my site...it has helped the majority of people on this site if not all of them that have installed an LT1 into their 3rd Gen...and even a fair amount who have installed them into other sorts of vehicles.

I realize this is an old thread but I might have got my hands on a Police Interceptor LT1, Tranny, Computer, Wiring Harness & Rear End. I need to know what else i'm gonna need to pull this off. I'm going to try and talk the guy into parting the car out. All I really want is the engine and anything else I need to do the swap that I can pull off of that car. Thanks guys.
