4th generation 17's on 3rd gen
4th generation 17's on 3rd gen
what king of problem am I going to run into. Looking into purchasing 17's to put onto my 92 rs. I looking to run 255/40 or so, am I going to run into any rubbing trouble Also about the rear end width differences am I going to need spacers or am I going to be sticking out from the wheel wells already. I cant remember if which is wider. Thanks for the Help
Without spacers, they will not fit. If you are planning on running the OEM style SS or WS6 wheels, you will need 2" spacers available here: www.skulte.com Oh, and I recommend running a 275/40r17 tire. Leave the 255/45 on 17x9 to the broke Mustang owners.
I realize that you are new here, so I won't jump on your case and just offer some good advice. Often times you will find a lot more info from the search feature than you will in replies. Do a search on your topic and you'll have all the answers you need.

This is a quote from Thirdgen.org I have had adapters for my Z06 rims. They ca be a pain if you take them off a lot.

Knight350 i didn't like the adapters for several reasons.
1. the car handles differently..you wouldn't think it would seeing as how your just extending the rim to the hub the same way a proper fitted wheel would but i didn't care for it as it was enough to notice....not the reason why i got rid of them, but a reason i was glad i did.
2. price, the price i paid to have the proper adapters i was only a 100 or so shy from what a good set of wheels would have cost me. i could have went with a boyd or something just as nice for even less. the only way i could justify adapters again would be if the rims were for a really cheap price that needed them.
3. hassles, not the biggest deal in the world but i did snap a few bolts. they were a pita to deal with in that area alone...however an upside was i found replacement studs for cheap and they could be replaced very easily.
4. looks, i couldn't stand how you could not see my brakes. it looked as if i put fwd rims on my car which essentially i did. i had this nice expensive set of wheels and brakes and all you could see where the large pieces of billet separating them. again, not truly important but i didn't like it.
those are the main points that got me on adapters....like i said they do work as they are suppose to if you get the right ones. i was very happy with skulte and the quality of his adapters as well as his service so i have nothing bad to say about the experience other then i should have done my own research for what i was into. had i listen to myself instead of others i never would have went with adapters and i would have the wheels i have today.

2 and 4 are the only valid arguements.
His car handles differently because either A) his other wheels had a different centerline, or B) its pyschological. Hundreds are using these, he is the only one to complain about this.
Snapping the studs? Tell him to buy a torque wrench...
The brakes do sit back a bit far, but you get used to it.

after looking into what I would pay for the rims and then another 150-250 for custom spacers I think I will just stay with what I got. Then purchasing tires, nope I'll stay with the original 25th anniversary rims with the new tires that I already own. Thanks for the imput. Really helped me out A LOT.
I put ZR1 style wheels on my car. I put a 4th gen rear in, so I didnt need spacers in the back. I did get my adaptors from www.skulte.com for the front.
Hey 92camaroRS check out my 17s for sale and let me know if your interested. 17x9 ROH rims for sale here: http://www.thirdgen.org/classifieds/...tgo?adid=38768
Why not just eliminate the need for spacers?

I don't need to show off my brakes. I didn't get the brakes I have for other people to see and gawk at them. I got my brakes so I could enjoy them and because they stop excellent. Who cares if others see them or not? Not me.
I have 9.5s/11s, and no problems. Not only that but I run it on a road course a couple times a year and the spacers do NOT effect the handling of the car at all.
The car gets driven hard and I don't have any problems.
