4th gen TPI?

Has anyone ever heard of anyone putting a tpi engine in 4th gen? What would be involved in tearing out the 3.4 and putting the engine and trans out of my iroc? I have an offer of $1100 for the engine and trans out of my third gen if i decide to sell it.

i dont see why not if you got lt1 engine mounts put in there if the lt1 is a bolt in for us then an l98 must be a virtual bolt in to them. If it works one way dont see why it wouldnt work the other.

If there are two motor mount positions on the pass side of the block, then it should work.
The pass side motor mount on an F-body LT1 is different than a 3rd sbc.

Only problem--Wiring!
I agree with Doug though, if it can go one way, should be able to go the other way. Good luck!

You do realize that it will barely fit in there I hope. The motors in the 4th gens sit farther back in the chassis, and half of the thing is under the cowl (the part and the bottom of the windshield) or whatever it's called. Your going to have to do some beating on the firewall to cram the thing in there. Even after you do get it in, have fun getting to the rear mounted distributor! It's way to much work to be worth it. Just find a running LT1 and swap it un, unless you have plenty of time and money.

well the issue is he just wrecked his l98 car and just bought a v6 4th gen so he has a motor he could put in. If you do have the time i think itd be a really cool swap.

Yeah, it would be. But I don't think you guys truly understand all of the problems that he'll run into. Do a search on it in this forum and mabye the lounge.

Clearance is going to be a HUGE issue. The TPI setup is a lot taller than an LT1 intake, and if you've ever worked on a 4th gen you know that's a tight fit. I'd be very surprised if a TPI would fit under the cowl without SERIOUS modification, i.e. modified motor mounts to lower the enitre engine and a lot of firewall clearance work and hacking the cowl. I personally just don't think it would be worth the trouble.

Doesn't the carb setup for the 4th gen LT1's clear the stock hood?
I am pretty sure they do.
I'll look at the 96 and check.

It will not fit. A friend of mine tried it in his road race 4th gen. They are limiting on horsepower but not on torque so he wanted to try it. The engine wouldnt fit in the engine bay.
