3rd gen wiring help

Hello all, I'm obviously new here.
I recently bought an 85 z28, and to my excitement it had a Holley 4bbl installed. The excitement slightly faded away when I realized the mess under the hood that was left. The car runs pretty good right now, but I don't like the thought of random wires just hanging around in the engine bay. I have 4 wires cut off by the alternator( pink, blue, black, and gray), my O2 sensor is just hanging free, the wire doesn't have anywhere to go to that I can see, and theres a blue wire kinda by my temp gauge wire hanging free too. Any help on what to do with these, or what they're for would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone could point me in the direction of some type of manual or tuning guide for a holley carb. that would be cool too.
Thanks in advance

Re: 3rd gen wiring help

does your distributor have a vacuum line going to it?

not for definite, but I don't believe so (I'll check when my girl comes back). Why would there be a vacuum line on the distributor?

**edit** yes, it hooks to a bell looking thing just under the distributor and theres a T fitting and it goes to the front of the carb. also, and back along the valve cover on the passenger side behind the engine

i would go grab a haynes manual for 82-92 f-bodies, they will have all of the wiring diagrams you will need. you will be able to find a book about holleys at autozone or napa, etc when you get the haynes manual. they are all pretty standard.

i pulled out the ecm from my 85 to installl a holley 4bbl, i just cut all the wires and ripped them out. cleaned up the engine bay a ton but i also lost my heater controls with the ecm out of the car.

you can unplug just about everything that is under the hood except the temp sensor (usually located on the block under the drivers side head) and the oil pressure (usually at the top of the intake by the dist.)

If the stock q-jet is already off the car, the ecm can't do anything with the sensors that are there so they are pointless to leave on there.

Re: 3rd gen wiring help

Same deal here. I have the Edelbrock carb and have a rats nest of wires that go to nowhere. I'm troubleshooting an electrical problem and have been pretty damned confused about all of the random wires that I have.

Follow on question since it was brought up: when I had my intake swapped from the Holley Street Dominator (non-EGR) to the Edelbrock Performer (EGR) my oil pressure gauge is inoperative. Where does it plug in (near the distributor evidently) or what does it look like so that I might hook it back up? Right now it looks like I have about 80 psi of oil pressure. I'd like to fix that.

The oil pressure switch is normally located on the back rail of the block next to the distributor. It will be a cylinder looking contraption with a tan or tan/wht wire going to it. Some of the engines had the switch on the side of the block just above the oil filter. I have only seen this on some of the newer F-bodies though.
