Re: 3rd gen long tubes?

I opted for true duals on my long tubes and they hardly ever scraped.

Re: 3rd gen long tubes?

Yes, but in the pic, these headers look like they have 3 primary tubes. Do they just combine the middle two ports or what? Also, they are 1 5/8 primaries. I just put a 383 into my '88 with Victor Junior heads, and am using my oldschool casler shorty headers and single 3" for now. I NEED LTs, and was gonna get the hookers. However, my car is lowered as well, and I would like to keep it that way. But do you guys think these Headmans will work fine, or should I stick to the 1 3/4 primary hookers? Thanks guys.

read the caption on the picture... where it says that the picture may not represent the actual item? those are the right headers for thirdgens, trust me.

Re: 3rd gen long tubes?

I have the heddman longtubes on my dropped Z-28, and i have a few problems with my duals scraping (2 1/2in.), but out where i live (northern Wisconsin), most of the roads arent the most condusive to driving sports cars on them.

i'd definately go with the heddmans though, most bang for the buck-make sure to get the ones with 1 5/8in primaries and 3 in collectors though. It might be a little tough to find an exhaust shop to do the duals for you, I couldn't find a shop that would do it around here, and ended up doing it myself.

Just make sure that you invest in some dead soft copper gaskets unless your idea of fun is changing the paper ones every month.

You'll also need to get a heated oxygen sensor, and the pigtail that it conects to(i got mine from the junkyard for free).

My car is carburated, but I do need the O2 sensor fitting for my A/F gauge. They do look like a great deal for the money, but still unsure about the 1 5/8" primaries, might be too small for me. The ports on the Victor heads are HUGE, 1 3/4 hardly fit.

1 5/8 hold up to around 450 hp. anything higher than 450 and you should go with 1 3/4

Re: 3rd gen long tubes?

Hooker Part # 2210
(prices through summit)
$409.00 uncoated
$609.00 Coated..

Are there any other companies out there that make 1 3/4 tubes?

$200-400 more and they hang lower than hedman's. There has to be another.. Maybe hedman makes a 1 3/4 and don't advertise it..?

Re: 3rd gen long tubes?

i have an honest question for you guys...how many noticed any real gains with the lt's over shorties? personally i didn't with my 1 3/4 lt's w/ custom 4" spintech setup compared to my dynomax jetcoated shorties and 3" flowmaster setup however i also swapped in a different motor as well. i can say the sound was 100% better but the loss of room wasn't worth it to me. for me with my car more towards cruising and whatnot the lower exhaust bothers me and isn't worth the gains. if anyone is interested in my custom setup let me know as i would like to go back to my dynomax and 3" setup.
