350 heads on a 305HO

Have a 305HO engine (9.5 compression) on the engine stand. Have a pair of #462624 heads 76CC.

Question: What would the compression be?

Thanks

Re: 350 heads on a 305HO

Thats getting low for compression. Atleast I could run 87 gas.

My bet is the flow of the 350 heads will make up for the compression difference vs the 305's?

Not worth the work either way, just stick with the 305's?

Thanks for the help, Dana

best to keep 305 heads on a 305 and 350 heads on a 350,

only way I could see the combo you have working is to run boost

On a 305 you'd be further ahead to run an aftermarket head designed for the 305, or you might want to search for information concerning using aluminum L98 heads. They would flow better and keep the compression ratio about the same.

Re: 350 heads on a 305HO

I don't own a par of aftermarket or L98 heads. These are the two I have. I was just wondering stock vs stock which were better on the 305. The debate would be would you rather have 9.5 compression (vs 7.8ish) or the better flow of the 350 heads. (305 heads flow bad)

Just using the engine in the '75 to keep it moving. Would be happy to spend $20 for gaskets and bolts to switch heads. This camaro also has headers and dual 2 1/2 exhaust. (I know to much for 305, just use on pipe )

Re: 350 heads on a 305HO

Having the marginally better flow of the 350 heads would be totally lost from the obscenely low 7.8 compression. To make power, you need a few basics. You need good flow and a good compression ratio, to put it in the simplest terms possible so as not to get into the specifics. The only way that 7.8 compression ratio would work is if you were going to run a boosted application. You'd actually see a significant drop in power by switching to the 76cc heads. And I think that you have already made up your mind anyway.

Re: 350 heads on a 305HO

yea, your probably right. Would be fun to use the 350 heads and get lots of HP. Taking the heads off a 190 hp 305 engine and using the 185 hp heads off a 350 has to be better. Better I say.

Thanks I'll leave it alone, for now.
